We first met Vivek at an open home for a property we were considering buying. At the time, We were also beginning the process of selling our own home and were choosing between two agents that we had narrowed our shortlist down to. A day or two after visiting the open home, we received a call from Vivek to follow up. At this point we had received about a dozen or so of these calls from various agents of properties that we had viewed. Most agents opened this call in roughly the same manner, “what did you think of the property?”, followed by “are you interested in this property/will you be making an offer?”. Vivek’s approach was quite different and instantly caught our attention. Rather than immediately attempting to ’sell’ us on the property and qualify our interest, Vivek asked a number of questions that were not at all associated with the property. Instead, he focused on our situation, our interests, and what we were looking for in a potential home. He asked what our deal breakers were and what our ideal home would look like before ever bringing up the property we had viewed. Most importantly, at no point did Vivek give us the feeling that he was simply trying to ‘get through’ the call as other agents had. Instead, he listened intently and took the time to understand our answers and situation. When it became clear that the property we had viewed had unfortunately not met all of our deal breaker qualifications, Vivek was respectful and did not push the matter. He then asked about the property that we were selling and if we had decided on an agent. We told him we had not and he politely requested the opportunity to come present to us, even offering to be available after hours after we explained to him how time poor we were. At this point we had pretty much already decided to forget about the two agents on our carefully narrowed down shortlist but thought it best to let Vivek present, just to be sure. We very quickly decided that this was the person we wanted representing our property. This turned out to be the best decision we could have made.
